Scent Scenarios in a Hypothetical Future
How can olfaction stimulate future thinking?
«Smell Forward» focuses on the sense of smell, with its usage as a prospective tool for envisioning our future. The project's basis is an investigation of the growing presence of olfactory manifestations within the spectrum of art, design, and marketing, confirming its relevance in our sensory experience. Olfaction is an underrated sense, however offering an incomparable and immersive experience. In this project, it is used in six fictional scenarios that envision and explore possible futures. The hypothetical times described in the scenarios are translated into smells: each story serves as a briefing to create tailored scents. «Smell Forward» crystalizes scent scenarios to sniff out what could be a future planet Earth populated by humans and artificial intelligence (AI) robots.
