ESCUCHA (Spanisch: «hör zu!») ist eine kuratierte Eventreihe, die sich der lateinamerikanischen Musik widmet. Anstatt «Latin Music» als homogenes Genre zu verstehen, lässt sie deren Vielfalt lebendig werden: Talks, Screenings, Tanzworkshops und DJ-Sets machen Genres wie Cumbia, Huayno oder Dembow zugänglich und beleuchten ihre Geschichte.
Streaming-Plattformen, algorithmische Playlists und globale digitale Distribution führen dazu, dass Musik zunehmend entkontextualisiert konsumiert wird. ESCUCHA setzt genau hier an, indem es einen Raum schafft, der Perspektiven aus der Diaspora und kollektives Hören zusammenbringt, Stereotypisierungen spielerisch hinterfragt und die Sichtbarkeit unterschiedlicher Perspektiven stärkt.
Als Veranstaltungsreihe angelegt, widmet sich jede Session einem anderen Fokus. Die eingeladenen Gäste teilen ihr spezifisches Wissen und ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen mit dem jeweiligen Genre, das durch unterschiedliche Formate tanz-, hör- und erlebbar wird. ESCUCHA verbindet so Kontextualisierung und kollektives Erleben und schafft einen Begegnungsort, dessen Zugänge und Communities ebenso vielfältig sind wie die Musik selbst.

ESCUCHA (Spanish: ‘listen!’) is a curated event series dedicated to Latin American music. Rather than understanding ‘Latin music’ as a homogeneous genre, it brings its diversity to life: talks, screenings, dance workshops and DJ sets make genres such as Cumbia, Huayno or Dembow accessible and shed light on their histories.
Streaming platforms, algorithmic playlists and global digital distribution increasingly lead to music being consumed out of context. ESCUCHA responds to this by creating a space that brings together perspectives from the diaspora and collective listening, playfully challenging stereotypes and increasing the visibility of different perspectives.
Conceived as an event series, each session has a different focus. Invited guests share their specific knowledge and personal experiences related to the respective genre, which becomes tangible through different formats that make it possible to dance, listen and experience the music collectively. In this way, ESCUCHA combines contextualisation with collective experience, creating a meeting place whose access points and communities are as diverse as the music itself.
