Kennen Sie Pflanzen? Sie sind überall – wir nutzen sie zur Dekoration, für die Freizeit, sie liefern uns Nahrung, Materialien und mehr. Die meisten von uns schenken ihnen jedoch keine Beachtung. Um etwas daran zu ändern, müssen wir das Problem verstehen. Der Begriff «Pflanzenblindheit» fasst diese Beobachtungen über die Beziehung zwischen Pflanze und Mensch zusammen, was uns zu dem Problem der anthropozentrischen Weltsicht führt. Im Zeitalter der Naturkatastrophen, dem Anthropozän, muss der Mensch seine Einstellung ändern und gleichberechtigte, respektvolle Beziehungen aufbauen. Mein Projekt unterstützt diesen Prozess bei der Altersgruppe, die noch nicht mit unserer menschenzentrierten Wahrnehmung in Berührung gekommen ist – den Kindern. Indem sie eine konstruktive Beziehung zu Pflanzen aufbauen, die als weniger wertvoll gelten als wir, kann sich die neue Generation an eine posthumane Weltsicht anpassen, in der alle Beteiligten gleichberechtigt sind.

Do you think you know plants? They are everywhere – we use them for decoration, for leisure, they provide us with food, materials and more. Most of us still fail to see and pay attention to them. To find a remedy to this, we need to understand the problem. The term ‘plant blindness’ sums up these observations about the plant-human relationship, which leads us to the issues regarding the anthropocentric world view. Many believe that in the era of natural disasters, the Anthropocene, humans need to change their attitude to their surroundings, and form equal, respectful relationships. My project aims to help this process by focusing on the age group who haven’t yet been exposed to our human-centred perception – kids. By forming a meaningful relationship with plants, believed to be less valuable than us, the new generation can adapt to a post-human world view where all participants are equal. The map and the learning cards provide a fun way of broadening our perspectives.

Have you considered nettle, broadleaf plantain, or meadow sage to be more than just weeds? Kids not only can learn their usages, but also their importance in the eco system, through their own experiences.
